As heat grips Delhi, we all think of
increasing need of energy efficient cooling systems for
industries, power
plants, commercial buildings. There are alternatives in the market- dry heat
rejection devices, air cooled or water cooled (cooling towers). The reason many
go for cooling towers is that it offers cost effective air conditioning
especially in regions where land or water is costly. Towers are constructed on
the principle that excess heat from water to the air stream through heat
rejection where water falls from top of tower, air passes through it from the
sides making some of the water evaporate and rest cooled. Cool water is then
collected for use in air conditioning, production plants etc. For a lay man, it
is easy to imagine the cooling power of water when poured over red hot radiator
as compared to cooling by cool air of the same.
Given high cost of land in Delhi, many
industries like power plants, natural gas processing plants, food processing
plants, petrochemical plants etc. use industrial cooling towers as preferredalternative. Even large buildings like hospitals, shopping malls, schools,
offices etc. prefer cooling towers as they provide low cost HVAC (heating,
ventilation and air conditioning). Thus Delhi offers a great potential market
for cooling tower manufacturers and we see a great number of them flourishing
in the region.
Delhi is buzzing with new shopping malls,
hospitals, offices and therefore the need of cooling towers in scorching heat.
This has led to competition among top 10 cooling tower manufacturers in the city and everyone is eager to get the best brand names in their umbrella.
Buyers these days prefer local manufacturers rather than ship different parts
and get assembled at the location. The reason is clear- it is more reliable
that professionals at manufacturers’ facility assemble the cooling tower rather
than local labour. Also there are advantages of local manufacturer like need of
replacement parts in future or other repair work and thus local offices,
industries etc. are looking for cooling towers manufactured in Delhi only.
There are factors which help clients to
trust the manufacturer and some of them include getting CTI (Cooling Technology
Institute) certification and designing the towers as per IBC (International
Building Code) which specifies structural requirements, installation
requirements including HVAC equipment etc.
Another important aspect is that the towers designed should be of high efficiency
which is defined as kilo Watt Fan of cooling tower per ton of heat rejected.
There are some countries which define the minimum requirements for the same too
like Kuwait but not in India. But still client would look at this factor to
choose the manufacturer.
Thus there is a huge scope for coolingtowers in metropolitan city like Delhi and thus an intense competition exists.
The manufacturers should focus on building high quality and efficient products
to be the leader in the industry.
